Study Groups

There are three types of study groups: A Search For God (SFG) Groups, Venture Inward Groups and Mutual Interest Groups. For group information, contact Yuene Shure at 530-671-4994 or 530-758-8055.

What are ASFG Study Groups?
A Search For God Groups are one of the most important aspects of local activities. They consist of small groups (2-12 people) that meet in a private home for two hours weekly to meditate and pray together, to study the A Search for God books, and to apply the spiritual principles presented there. These books were written and tested over a period of eleven years by the first SFG Study Group, of which Edgar Cayce was a member. They provide a balanced, supportive and safe approach to spiritual development and learning to love.

How can I get involved with a SFG Group?
Check to see whether there is a group in your area. You are invited to visit any of them, and are, of course, welcome to continue to meet with them on a weekly basis if you so choose. You do not have to be an A.R.E. Member to attend.  Please click on Get Connected, complete the appropriate section and submit the form if you would like more information.

What if there's no SFG Group nearby?
If there is no group close to you, you may want to start a group in your own home. If so, please contact Yuene (info above). If you are not in Northern California or Northern Nevada, contact the A.R.E. Search For God Study Group Program at 1-877-428-2734 (toll free).

Is there a fee to participate in SFG Groups?
There is no charge for these meetings, though a donation may be collected.

Is there anything I should read before I participate in a SFG Group?
If you would like to prepare yourself further, you may want to read these books which provide a solid grounding in the Cayce readings:

  • There is a River by Thomas Sugrue
  • The Edgar Cayce Primer by Herbert Puryear
  • Many Mansions by Gina Cerminara
  • Meditation: Gateway to Light by Elsie Sechrist

Where can I get these books?
These books are in paperback and usually available for sale at Region events, from libraries, bookstores, A.R.E. Headquarters online bookstore, or through our bookstore. Please contact Meg Linden at 415-663-1488 or meglinden@msn.com for book and product information and ordering. If you join a SFG Group, you will also want copies of A Search for God books I and II. (return to top)

Venture Inward Groups meet weekly in the same format as A Search for God study groups, but study other A.R.E. or parallel materials (e.g., the Cayce readings on the Book of Revelation, A Course in Miracles).

For information on Venture Inward Groups, contact Yuene (info above). (return to top)

Mutual Interest Groups usually meet monthly to share and discuss material from the Cayce readings other than the A Search for God books as well as parallel materials. Subject matter may vary from month to month, or the mutual interest group may choose to focus on one topic (e.g., dreams, astrology, the Bible, prayer/healing) for a longer period.

For information on Mutual Interest Groups, contact Yuene Shure at 530-671-4994 or 530-758-8055.

The spirit of the Search for God group is learning how to love, and its principle is to learn by comparison. All seekers will find that the true spirit of their own respective backgrounds and the spirit of the information being studied are compatible. The information is universal in nature.

The central theme which draws like-minded people together in Search for God Study Groups is the realization that there is more to us and to the meaning of life than we see in our present physical manifestations and circumstances. For many, this realization helps them look at their life in a more positive and joyous light, with a lot more depth than they suspected until then.
